Skill Builder 3 - Twitter |

This was a very interesting assignment. I realize I am one of the "lurkers" who will view from the side line and actually enjoyed following the links to many very interesting articles, discussions, and debates! I have participated although infrequently. It could possibly be a tool that I would use more often if it was associated with disseminating information such as work/homework assignments. As much as it may "shock" some people, I do not have a smart phone due to restrictions on having it in the work place, this does impact my use or reliance on social media. I work in a classified facility and routinely do not have my phone with me for 10+ hours a day. Even when I use the library center, I cannot have my phone in the facility. Due to this I am more apt to use my unclassified work email or g-mail at work than rely on social media (also limited access to this on work location computer system) for information dissemination. I guess until things change, Twitter will have to be a limited use item relegated to my home computer.
I do see that I can use Twitter for updating my Odyssey of the Mind group (or at least their parents)! I will be able to Tweet "Spontaneous Problems" for the kids to work on over the weekend. (www.odysseyofthemind.com/practice/default_cat.php?Id=2) Here are a couple examples:
Animal Rhymes -Your problem is to make a rhyme using a name or species of an animal. For example, you might say, "I think mice are nice" or "There's a cat in the hat."
Be Patient - Your problem is to pretend you are a patient in an operating room and you hear noises and conversation. Say what you would like to hear or what you would not like to hear. You must begin each response with "I would like to hear . . ." or "I would not like to hear . . . ."
Cantilever Structure - You are to build a structure of toothpicks and clay that will sit on a table behind a boundary line. The structure will cantilever, or stick out, as far as possible beyond the boundary line without touching the table surface.
Names - Your problem is: Use a word or words to make a first and last name. You must relate this name to an occupation. They would have to then write down their answers and bring to the next meeting.
Ideally they would have 10 minutes to do the problem once they were given it.
It was a good learning and familiarization for me and I will continue to view my account. It has been another growing experience!
The DE Scholars I followed are below. I also included my handle and my tweets.
